A-LIST HIRING

Hiring guides and tools for Australian employers

Straight answers to the questions that come up before you hire someone, with every figure sourced and dated. All of it free, none of it behind an email wall.

What it costs

An employee costs more than their wage. An electrician on the $32.19 award rate costs about $73,535 a year once superannuation, leave loading and workers compensation are counted, against a wage of $63,607. These guides work the real figure out line by line, with every source named.

What it should pay

The award sets the legal minimum. The market sets what people actually accept, and the two are rarely the same number. These pages carry both for seventeen roles: the award code and classification, the legal floor, and the band employers are really paying, each figure sourced and dated.

Why it is not working

Most roles that will not fill are not advertising problems. They are rate problems, licence problems, or a brief that rules out the people who can actually do the work. These pages cover the four fixable reasons, the order to fix them in, and how to tell when advertising is the wrong tool entirely.

Hiring a specific role

What the role costs to employ, the current market band, the licences that gate it, and why advertising often does not fill it.
